I can only tell you my story. I did TMS in 2018. I was where you are. It was not working. I was on anti depressants and I was spending a lot of money on these treatments. It was not until #34 or after that I started feeling better. I completed the 36 and was still uncertain…but I started feeling better for days after completing. After 48+ years of depression, I am off medication, I monitor myself frequently and go for “maintenance” of TMS about 3x a year (Maintenance is 3-5 treatments). It worked for me, That’s all I can say. If you don’t complete it, you may never know if the next treatment is the one that starts to turn things around? This is my opinion and my story. I hope that #26 is the one for you!

Yes. I did not get relief until about 32 or 33 so do not give up hope.

Your experience was very similar to mine! I finished in early December – Didn’t get relief till the last week. After a few months I was depressed again. I went for maintenance (I did 5 days in a row) it helped tremendously! I have had 2 maintenance treatments in the last 9 months and each one lasts a bit longer. I check my mood on a regular basis and if I feel down I schedule maintenance. Some people have to go quarterly for maintenance, I will say the depression is improved, but not as great as when I originally finished. But I found if I have the suicidal swirling thoughts they are usually gone after the first maintenance treatment.

One last thing: studies are showing that TMS will increase your threshold of pain. I have found this to be true, so maintenance before a surgery, etc are helpful.

Hi Kat! Here is my experience: I am 60 and have had depression for 50 years. A strong family history (6 suicides). I also have PTSD and anxiety – although it was managed well. I was struggling – not wanting to live another day. I tried TMS, it took about 34 sessions before I felt better. I went alone, never hurt (but I have thick hair). I completed in early December 2018. I am off all medication, my PTSD is much improved (I did bilateral) and it has helped my anxiety quite a bit. I recently found myself becoming depressed again and called for maintenance. First session they took me from base to 100 and second from 100-120 (my high level). I will do one more tomorrow then check my mood in 3 months. Make sure you use Neurostar and go every time! The biggest pain was in my pocketbook! But I am saving on psychiatrist bills, medication, counselors and side effects!! So I consider it a win! Don’t be afraid – not painful at all! My sister who also has depression is trying to get approved to do it also. It was so wonderful to wake up and look forward to my day! Never realized everyone else just automatically felt that way! Reality is that about 55% are improved with minimal to no maintenance. But some have no improvement and some have negative effects, no idea why. I hope this helps you make a decision and that it works for you. I feel very fortunate that I found it.

I was never told that, I often went home and back to bed.

I am happy for you! I suffered depression for at least 50 years and did TMS. My relief was not as quick as yours, but nonetheless, I am “cured”. I also discovered improved memory that I thought was gone due to a head injury a few years ago. Doctors had told me the brain had healed as well as it could and the short term memory was impaired. I was terrified to go off medication after being on the same meds for over 20 years. I discovered that I would miss a day or two and finally looked at my pull box to see that it had been over a week! My sister is suffering depression and I recommended it to her. I found this site later and am afraid to recommend now. I wish you all the best! I had anxiety but no sore site! Keep us up to date on your progress. For those who are not getting the benefits this site is a great help as I see people sharing other remedies such as acupuncture and meditation. It is a relief to know that all these years I was told to “change”, “be happy like everyone else” and I carried such shame for not being happy! That there was a reason – and it was not “just me being a bad person”. Very validating!

Although it worked for me, this kind of comment makes me concerned to recommend it. Had I read these before I did TMS I would probably not have tried it. Have those who have developed anxiety grouped together to find out why and what may work to give you relief? I had anxiety before and it is so debilitating! A very serious condition. Since it can be made worse, perhaps there is a medical concern that can make it better?!

I did have some anxiety around #22-34. It finally seemed to start working around 36! And it can even take effect after #36. But after 50+ years of depression and a strong family history, it worked for me! I pray it works for you!

I can only answer for myself. I completed the full 36 treatments. They had warned me to be prepared for the dip – I did have anxiety and dip about week 4 but it varies from individual to individual. After 50 years of depression I am finally off medication and feel fine. I hope that it works for you, too. I feel so bad for those on this site who have had adverse reactions. My psychiatrist has had 3 complete TMS. Two of us were “cured” and the other developed severe anxiety. If I had found this site before I started I probably would not have done it. But, for me, it was the right thing.

I saw a pcychiatrist at the mapping. That’s all. It was a concern if something happened: convulsions, etc. there is no doctor in the office. I saw him at the mapping and never saw him again. I finished all 36 treatments and no one has ever followed up, asked if I think I’m better – they just told me where to forward my insurance checks to,

I am on Wellbutrin and did notice my tinnitus has gotten worse. At times it is so loud it is hard to sleep at night! The offic tech had never heard of this, but I thought I read something about it?

It is very concerning to read all the people who have posted that TMS has left them with dibilitating anxiety. Does anyone have any idea what these people have in common? Somehow it is affecting them differently than others. I cannot imagine what you are going through!

I am doing #35 tomorrow. I had a similar – felt good at start, felt terrible and now it seems to have balanced somewhere in the middle. Any improvement is worth it. From all the reading that i’ve Done, it can improve even weeks after you complete treatment. Never give up hope! The best we can do for each other is support one another!

Very happy for you! I hope that it is successful for you. As you can tell from this forum, not everyone is so lucky and, unfortunately, some end up worse. I hope that you are one of the people it works for!

Thanks. I sought the treatment myself and the techs have not asked or listened to any concerns that I have. I finished #28 today with no improvement in my depression. Each day I hope that this is the day…,next week I start to taper….

So my post has been up for several days and I guess I am invisible. The depression has overwhelmed me. I am continuing with treatment and still hoping it will work, but lose hope with each session. I guess I am alone in this. My purpose in life is to be that person everyone hates. I’m the worlds punching bag. I purposefully avoid people so that they don’t have to experience me. I have no idea what is next for me. I pursued this on my own, no doctor, no therapist. I was convinced I had finally found something that could change my life only to find myself in debt and even more depressed than ever.

I just finished #24 and am having anxiety – can’t sleep, heart racing, shaking and headaches. I understood that bilateral was not tested. They attach the machine and leave the room. No one is in there with me. I have no buzzer. And concerns I have are blown off. No one ever asks me how I feel. Three times they have handed me a sheet and asked me to fill it out answering 5 questions about how i’m Feeling. I’m convinced they throw it away. No one answers the phones or responds to emails. They are not even filing my insurance correctly but if I ask this big man with a t shirt on comes and yells at me. There are no other providers of TMS close to me – 40 minute drive one way. I have only seen a doctor once and he never asked me a question, explained anything and I never received any literature on this. This office claims 100% success with TMS. I don’t believe that this is how the inventor intended – or NeuroStar – for the equipment to be used.

I am sorry to hear that you have finished treatment with no relief. I have no doctor prescribing. I saw him once – when they did the initial “mapping”. He never spoke to me, asked me a question and no one introduced him. My TMS office says 100% of the patients have improvement. They keep TELLING me I feel better but I don’t. Yes, they very much oversold this. Today was treatment #24. I am back in bed with covers over my head. They won’t return calls about insurance (they actually tell you they turn their phones off during the day) and will not respond to emails. If I have to ever schedule a maintenance appointment I don’t Know how to reach them. Originally I contacted Neurostar and Neurostar contacted them. Because their phones are off….is this what everyone else is experience is?? And they just close whenever they want – some weeks I did not get 5 sessions because they decided to not come in! The staff wears jeans and t shirts or sweatshirts and one day she had cut off jeans shorts on and a t shirt! Is this the Treatment others have?

How did things end up for you? I saw this and am having the same issues. The tech said “we’re both taking tomorrow off so you won’t have treatment.” Just a random October day. So I only had 4 my second week. The techs have made this such a disappointing treatment and I am so disappointed! I am no better and feel so abandoned!

Thank you rdmstm. It’s been very frustrating. The staff keeps saying “you seem so much better!” But my husband has not noticed anything and last night my daughter called and finally said “you sound really down, i’ll Let you go”. I finally told the staff lady today “you only see me when I come in and leave – you don’t know.”

To those of you who have not found relief: it is expensive. I know…i’m paying it and know that I could have used the money for so many other things. I had to tell myself that YOU HAVE to try it. Maybe it won’t Work but at least you can say you tried everything! Keep pulsing – maybe #36 will be the one – or even after!
