    Hi nicjsb:

We are very sorry to read this, and want to make sure you are okay. Please let us know how you are feeling today.

You are doing the right thing to discuss this with your doctor as soon as possible. If you are in an emergency situation, do not delay in calling your doctor, 911, or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255

    Hi paulo:
We moved your reply to its own topic because of how unique your situation is. We also noticed that you said you are located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and just wanted to clarify upfront that TMS+You is open to all but the information from this website (and from many who post in the forum) is designed for a US audience. What this means is that certain referenced TMS manufacturers may have different statuses and availability in the US compared to Brazil, not to mention certain protocols in administering TMS Therapy.

For a US audience, it is very unorthodox to only have one or a small number of sessions of TMS (unless it is stopped prematurely by the prescribing doctor over other health concerns). It cannot be stressed enough that TMS is an intense medical regiment that is initially designed to take place many times a week over many weeks.

    Hi edr:

We are so excited to have you here on the forum, and thank you for this great post. You are correct that TMS+You was created and is maintained by Xsalta Marketing, LLC. We understand that because Xsalta provides marketing services for mental healthcare providers – specifically TMS-prescribing ones – that there may be a question of conflict of interest. For this reason and more, we are very open about the fact that TMS is a project by Xsalta and have taken special care to share this in the “About Us” located in the footer of this website.

When TMS was initially cleared by the FDA in 2008, Xsalta was the first marketing group to identify the importance of this revolutionary treatment, as well as the need to communicate through effective marketing exactly what it is. Since then, we have prided ourselves on becoming one of the most trusted sources for information on TMS Therapy, and help practitioners and clinics all over the United States to share exactly what TMS Therapy is and how it works.

TMS+You is completely not-for-profit and we strive to ensure that this website is an unbiased and comprehensive resource for all people seeking important information about TMS. That is why we have focused so much on Insurance and Cost, as well as a TMS Doctor locator that TMS+You provides at no charge to website visitors or the doctors who are listed, and even why we created this very forum. In fact, since the launch of TMS+You in 2014, we have added and amended information here based on some of the feedback we read in the forum.

We can assure you that what is presented on TMS+You is authentic and carefully worded to ensure our reporting is one hundred percent usable to people such as yourself, with no sales pitch and we promise no ulterior motives.

If you have any questions we can answer, you can find us right here on the forum or send us a message through our “Ask A Question”. Thanks again for finding us, and we look forward to seeing you around the forum!

in reply to: How Much Does TMS Therapy Cost? #5210

crisismalta, in the US the big cost barrier is tied to insurance coverage. Without coverage, TMS can cost in excess of 10,000 (or about 350-500 per treatment session). However, with insurance coverage part or all of that cost can be compensated. More and more insurance providers are covering TMS, as its popularity grows and its effectiveness is documented. It would be great to see patients paying only 600.00 out of pocket for treatment!

The most common reported side effects of TMS is acute mild to moderate scalp irritation and mild headache. In some studies, nearly half of all patients experience one or both of these symptoms. However, both are temporary and should subside within the first few weeks.

Involuntary muscle twitching has not been widely observed, and the most serious side effect observed would be seizure, though a very small number of patients report this (appx 1 in 10,000 by some studies).

    Hi sunflower78:
One thing we’d like to add is that the effects of TMS vary from person to person. Maybe the best thing to do is keep yourself open to the fact that you may experience any number of possible outcomes with this treatment.

For some, there is complete recovery, for other people there is no effect at all. Still others, will go through TMS and get just healthy enough to finally address other deeper issues that have been causing the depression to begin with.

Feeling the effects of depression can vary too. Some will actually experience The Dip, where they are lower than when they started (but this feeling DOES go away!), and for others the curtain of depression just seems to lift one day after so many treatments. Some people don’t realize they are better until weeks after treatments end.

Every person is different and TMS really shows that. Keep hope alive because you can get better, and TMS may be part of that process. Patience seems impossible right now, but hang in there. And be sure to work closely with your doctor so they can track your progress and make adjustments to your TMS Therapy as necessary.
