TMS increased my anxiety. I am in a very tough place.

For those who developed anxiety, or whose anxiety worsened after TMS. Did it eventually get better?

    Thank you

I gotta say, I did pay out of pocket for the anxiety type treatments when this happened to me, seemed to help. Still experiencing lots of anxiety but not puking every morning like I was. I think we can expect a timeline of 6 months- 1 year. I have talked to others aswell, I’ve seen 2 months, 1 month, 1 year. Everyone is different, get back on meds and wait it out, I feel like I’m 75% myself, and with a light benzo, I feel like myself again.

Low frequency right side treatments seemed to help, but they wore off after awhile it seems. I couldn’t even look at a screen without getting sick post TMS so I think something went awry.

I do not do well with medication, but because of the severity of the anxiety, I was desperate. My psychiatrist put me on generic buspar. It is cheap. Started with 7.5 mg twice a day, then 15 mg twice a day – which was fine while I was off work. However, it impacted my work (unmotivated, sleepy, sometimes dizzy), so I went back to 7.5 twice a day. It mostly keeps the anxiety at bay, though I am starting to experience some breakthrough anxiety. But it does help. My last treatment was the first week of April.

I do also have Xanax for if things get really bad – but for me, the Xanax (.05) makes my depression 10x worse for several days so I try not to take it (I am very sensitive to medication).

One of the selling points for tms is that it is supposed to change how the brain works, be cumulative, and permanent. Now I can only hope that might not be true (assuming tms has caused the anxiety – I have no way to know for sure, though it seems the most likely expkaination).
