    Hi Everyone,
I’m afraid I might be in the minority in that I’m receiving TMS primarily for anxiety. Since my early 20s I have had these “episodes”of anxiety and depression that generally have a triggering event, but the response doesn’t match the situation at all. These episodes generally last between 2-6 months. I had many episodes when I would go on and off medication, so during my last major episode I committed to staying on Paxil forever. In January of this year, despite being on Paxil still, I relapsed hard! I have upped the Paxil by 10mg and started taking Lamictal (still not sure if that’s helping), but in order to avoid the medication guessing game, I decided to try TMS. I’ve only had 7 sessions so far. I’m going 3 times a week because I work full time, but I might try to increase to 4 pretty soon. I receive pretty constant pulses for 33 minutes on the right side of my head. Right now I’m at 100% of my motor threshold, but I meet with the doctor again next week to see if we should increase that.

So here’s my questions…has anyone else had experience with TMS primarily for anxiety? If so, how long did it take to feel some relief? Did you experience any kind of dip, or is that more related to the depression treatment? Is it worth it to try the left side as well, to relieve some of the secondary depression? I’d really just like to connect with some people who have been through TMS who can field my questions while I’m on this journey. Hope to hear from some of you.

    Courtney:

Of course, as you say, having contact with your own doctor first is imperative. Also I am going to share the same website I just shared with someone else with a different problem. This is a podcast from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation – the presenting doctor is an expert in the field of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. You may want to google the doctor’s name, to have resources in addition to this site, and contact him. The reason why I suggest this is, as you will see from the podcast, that research is progressing rapidly in the field of TMS and there may be information that would be helpful to you based on his research.

I hope this is helpful. Good Luck and keep us posted.

    Hi Colleen,

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I’m wondering if you’d be willing to exchange emails? I’d like to chat with someone who has completed TMS and has found success. Today was treatment number 14. The last few weeks, since I posted have been really good, not 100%, but much better. Then yesterday afternoon I had a bit of a dip that has continued through today. Of course it’s in these moments that we turn to the internet! Just looking for some moral support through this journey from someone who’s been there. If you’re up for it, my email address is: Courtney_Mulligan2004@yahoo.com. Thanks.
